I asked how to live my dreams, and this is what I get in my inbox, courtesy Joel Osteen (though I’m pretty sure he is not reading my blog):

“What are you doing to bring your dreams to pass? Are you getting prepared? Do you have clear direction? Are you taking steps of faith? Success is intentional. You may not know what steps to take right now, but God has a good plan for your life. If you’ll do your part to seek Him and begin to make plans to succeed, God will guide you. He will direct your steps. You don’t have to vaguely go through life. God wants to show you His plan. He wants to pour out His blessing on you and see you living a life of victory. Decide today to make plans to succeed. Write down your goals. Make time to evaluate where you are in life. Evaluate your finances, your career, your relationships. Don’t go another week without having a plan for your future. Evaluate how you're spending your time and money. If you’ll go beyond dreaming and start making plans to succeed, God promises He’s going to direct your steps. He will lead you down the path of His favor. He’ll lead you into increase. He’ll lead you into promotion, and you’re going to see your dreams come to pass and walk in success in every area of your life!”

My best friend’s oldest daughter is seven and prone to perfectionism.
So before she takes a test, my friend tells her she won’t know the answers to all of the questions.
She wants her to be okay with getting some of them wrong.

I have an all-or-nothing mindset, meaning I typically do nothing instead of something because I can’t do it all.
If I could do it all, my 24 hours would be fragmented by activities and efforts totaling at least 30 hours to complete.
I have to remind myself that small steps in the right direction is better than no movement at all.
So today, in a moment of clarity, my motto is “better than nothing.”

Do not tell me a secret. I am not a secret keeper.
I am a sharer. And if you tell me a fabulous bit of news, I am likely to share it with everyone on my speed dial.
That said, I can, when the occasion requires, use superhuman strength to keep my mouth shut and my phone off.

Now, I am not a proponent of dieting. But I do know this: Whatever the devil wants, I want the opposite.

On more than one occasion, I have accused my husband of being passive-aggressive, which he has always protested.
Today, he stumbled upon a quiz on the subject.
“I’m assertive,” he informed me.
“Oh, what do you think I am?” I asked curious.
“You’re assertive. I actually think you’re assertive-aggressive.”

My best friend sent me a glowing review this week for what is called the “Best Vegan Mac and Cheese in the Entire World … Seriously.”
Being that I avoid dairy, I was anxious to try the recipe, and I personally think it is quite good. My family, however, panned the dish.
First, my mom suggested it might be best to serve the vegan mac and cheese with actual cheese on the side.
My sister took a bite, scrunched up her face and exclaimed, “It’s not for me. I love you, but it tastes like a vitamin.”
My brother commented, “I can’t really describe the flavor. The flavor is there. It’s chock-full of flavor, but I don’t know what it is.” He went on to say, “I’m proud of you. If the world’s coming to an end, you know how to make macaroni and cheese out of barley, dirt and bark.”
My dad attempted to compliment the dish. “I’ve had boxed mac n cheese that I’ve liked less because it tasted like cardboard,” he said. But my sister quickly pointed out, “Now, it’s being compared to cardboard.”
My husband cleverly got out of trying it because he’s allergic to soy.

My dad’s birthday is tomorrow. We had a family dinner tonight.
My brother, ever thoughtful, gifted my father with a book titled, “Sex After 60.” All the pages are blank.
My 81-year-old grandmother laughed especially hard at this.
“That book on sex is funny,” she said to me.
“Yea,” I agreed.
“Hopefully, it’s not true,” she continued.
“For my father’s sake, hopefully not,” I replied.
“For your mother’s sake, too,” she added.

“What have you been dedicating yourself to?” an old acquaintance asked.
I instantly liked the sound of this question so much better than the typical “What do you do?” or “Where do you work?” because it makes the possibilities endless.
What do I dedicate myself to? What do you dedicate yourself to?
